To begin the session we come together in a circle and get to know each other a bit better, we share a little about ourselves and how we've come to be here and the ice is broken!
Claire Morris begins the warm up with name games and we then walk around the space, smiling, making eye contact, sensing each other. We play with different speeds, pauses, weaving in and out and around ourselves, by this time the energy is flowing and we are warm.
We want to give the guys an idea of what sort of projects we get up to, so we have a couple of books which we have been working from recently, Dores Angels and Dantes Divine Comedy. We choose an image and work from it either using what we have chosen literally or using shapes or lines to give us ideas for movements.
To begin with we work on our own movements later pairing up and then creating a small piece, which we will share with the group at the end with feedback. This is where our stories and emotions regarding recovery and addiction emerge. Its interesting to listen to differing viewpoints and interpretations. Some people think a piece is dark where others feel it is light.
