Up at 6am to go to Arch Initiatives where lots of preparations were happening.
9.30am A band having a sound check: “Proud Mary” a song named after a steam boat rolling down a river.
There’s a friendly atmosphere, everyone celebrating. We checked out the stage - its a little bit on the small side, but we have performed on smaller!
Wirral recovery festival BBQ, stalls with different information, a vibrant atmosphere, coffees, teas and smoothies.
After the rehearsal on the stage we gather around the bench with a cuppa, chatting and talking about the performance at 1pm.
We’ve just found out Riley B is Rappin’ and the sun is shining. Ben “SOS” Riley was a Risen member and is setting up a social enterprise Rappin and Recovery, great to see him out there going from strength to strength.
Warm up in the changing rooms!! A few nerves flying around, everyone’s excited. Then we are on..... Everything went fast as always, everyone did really well. At the end we had audience coming up to us, Wayne fed back that someone had said it brought tears to their eyes..
Someone is interested in joining Risen, so we gave her our details and look forward to seeing her at the Open workshop in June.
After all the excitement it was onto other matters, talk of the UK Recovery Walk, raising awareness.. we are advocates part of a bigger movement.
